What is the A2 license?
The A2 license is the advanced certificate within the open category. It allows you to fly C2-class drones weighing up to 4 kg in environments where people are present, always keeping the minimum safety distances established by EASA regulations.
If you already hold the A1/A3 and you work —or want to work— with drones in urban areas, events, construction sites or more demanding environments, the A2 is your essential next step.
Prerequisites:
- A1/A3 certificate (mandatory)
- Be 16 years old
- If the drone has a camera and weighs more than 250 g: registration as an operator with AESA

What is the difference between the A1/A3 and the A2?
The A1/A3 is the basic certificate. The A2 allows you to fly heavier drones (up to 4 kg) and get closer to people, significantly expanding your possibilities in urban and professional environments.
Do I need the A1/A3 to enrol in the A2?
Yes, it is a mandatory prerequisite. If you don’t have it yet, we recommend the A1/A3 + A2 Pack.
What is the practical self-training declaration?
A document certifying that you have completed a period of independent flight practice. You will need to sign it and submit it together with the exam application to AESA.
How many questions does the exam have?

Do I need to register with AESA as an operator?
If your drone has a camera and weighs more than 250 g, yes. Registration as a UAS operator with AESA is mandatory in that case.
